Case study

Our client is one of the largest groups of independent financial advisers in Asia. Specialising in advising expatriates, the company has been operating in Hong Kong since 1990 and in Singapore since early 2006.

The client employs Wealth Management Consultants from a wide variety of backgrounds, and places great emphasis on attracting candidates who can demonstrate the personal qualities of drive, commitment, determination and professionalism. They approached Star Candidate because they needed to fill an average of 50 Wealth Management Consultant vacancies per year for the next three years in Hong Kong and Singapore. Crucially, they were also very interested in improving the long-term retention of staff, and this meant finding people who combined the relevant personal and professional attributes, with a real desire to live and work overseas.

To meet the company's requirements, we devised a creative candidate attraction campaign which ran across various relevant media channels. This stressed the values of the company, explained its heritage and underlined the strength of its reputation among the expatriate communities of Hong Kong and Singapore. As such, the advertising helped to reinforce the client's employer brand, and immediately build up a positive impression of the client as an employer of choice.

All advertising directed potential applicants to a dedicated recruitment portal, developed by ourselves to explain the roles, the company, the demands and the lifestyle that came with the job. The site also featured full details of each vacancy, together with video podcasts of the Chairman, Senior Consultant and Business Director explaining more about the company. Again, this helped to convey the employer's brand values, and to demonstrate the importance they placed on informing and supporting new staff.

The site allowed visitors who were still interested in the role to apply online. We then selected the best prospects, interviewed them, created video podcasts of the best applicants and then forwarded these on to the client to view online. As a result, they were able to invite only the very strongest people to interview face-to-face, thereby saving a huge amount of time and money.
